Are there any rust free mini's out there?
I looked over a W reg cooper the other day which was spotless aside from rust bubbling under the front window and all down the wings. This car had been reguarly waxoiled, covered in a blanket, polised every week and always stored in a dry garage since new. If this one is rusty I suspect they must all be. How could Rover's build quality be so poor? Did they forget to coat the metal?!
Are older cars the same or worse? Is there any point in paying for a respray, or is it a waste of time?
Are the new reshell bodies any better? - Are they galvanised? If not, why not?!

The best aged shell i've ever seen is sat in my garage.. built 1980, mid eighties mini's however were seemingly made out of v poor quality steel & rusted with a vengeance - the rover mini's pretty awful too - I have a spares tree 96 equinox parked outside that is so far gone its incredible (wing seams a mass of rust, inner & outer sills gone, multiple holes in floorpan & even more suspect "crunchy" areas, rear valance a goner, a panels - what a panels... one door is mint though whilst the other bubbled up beautifully - rust has started under both front & rear screens too- massive amounts of bubbling (it has spent 90% of its terminally short life in Devon's salty air though).
Short answer - there's a couple of rust free mini's a pimlico and a galvanised moke!

I can't understand why people are asking top dollar for rusting cars. Even more amazing are those who buy 'em. I don't see why I should be saddled with a £2k bill for a respray, particuarly if the underlying material is that bad that the problem would likely return.
So are the new reshells galvainsed?
(I can see a mk1 golf being a safer bet for classic hatch fun)
