Trying to remove the speedo cable. Its come out of the bulkhead and I've got the car up and have been under it to remove the other end from above the drive shaft. In the 'Haynes crappity crap manual' it says about removing it by using the left orrifice to gain entry above the driveshaft. Yep follow that except there's no room to get a babies hand in let alone mine.

Come on PHers work your magic??

drain the oil out and take the hib off, you can than take the pot joint out. this gives most access.

you can do it with everything in situ, but its very tight. if the cable wont undo, it may be easier to undo the 3/8th bolt that holds the little saddle down, you can then 'yak' the cable out with the drive still attached. its then easy to get some grippers on it and undo it.

sometimes you can get your arm down from the top and undo it, but again this relys on the cable end been ok.

usually they are beyond tight or cross threaded.

foul job!

What you can try doing is using some pliers turn the cable to undo the old one slightly, that can sometimes loosen the connection to the drive, also might need to loosen the engine mounts so you can swing the engine forward and reach down the back, combination of that, pliers and water pump pliers, it is possible to undo just lol. Mine needs doing on my Mini but I'm waiting till the engine comes out lol.

Sometimes you can make the knurled cap undo by levering it with a longish screwdriver. It's not getting the old one out that's the real problem, it's getting the new one started without crossing the thread. It can be done if you have small hands, or an assistant with small hands. I just did one on the 'S' without too much trouble, except for a bit of 'Mini Spanner Rash' from squeezing my hand down the back of the engie after removing the 'Ultimate Engine Steady'. B****y horrible job!

If you can slacken it initially from underneath with a long screwdriver, then undo it by hand from the top. Replace from the top with the scredriver to finally make sure it's secure. That should work!

Have to say, I drop mine in from the top but then put it in and tighten it up from below. Having forgot to fit it to the engine when putting new engine in.....
