If anyone is interested, I just got a super deal on a set of 165/70x10 Falkens. I paid £23-98 each including VAT, plus a delivery charge for next-day delivery. They do the 165/60x12 size as well. The contact details are: www.falkentyres.co.uk
Nice people to deal with as well and very helpful when I phoned.

175/50/13

I know you are not a fan of 13's Peter but I do a lot of motorway driving and have a 2.9 diff. Its the only way of getting a decend noise level in the car at 80mph.

Having just fitted s/c drop gears to my all-new transmission set up to go with the s/c c/r gears I now know what 'high internal noise' really is. In fact, I did an 80 mile journey whilst running in and had to use ear plugs. With a 3.9 diff and 10" wheels it's unbelievable. The acceleration with 115 bhp through that lot is quite stunning though.
I just did a quick calculation on gearing and 12" wheels with 165/60 tyres are only 0.5% lower geared than 175/50 on 13", so there is no difference really. With a 165/70x10 the difference is 3.9%, again not really very much. The 12" will always handle much better as, IMHO, a 175 is too wide for the Mini especially in the wet.
You know my personal preference is for the 10" wheel, but then, I'm just really old!

I use mytyres for the TVR rubber, they are very good.

Why 13's? Its the wheels the car came with, I would never go to 12 but 10's yes please!

Not with the sort of milage I do though.
