Hi

I have just given myself a considerable headache tonight trying to line up the radiator on the mini. The car has recently been fitted with an mg metro engine and i am convinced i have fitted an incorrect mount either engine to subframe or the small mount that attaches to the radiator cowl. When fitted the radiator is not parrellel with the engine and is very close to the inner wing. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as its about the only thing stopping me getting this car back on the road

thanks Andy

The bottom mount that the engine mounting attaches to should be the one carried over from the mini engine however the top bracket needs to be the one used on the 1275GT or S which positions the top of the rad further out - dependent on thermostat housing used you may need to use the S top hose too, not forgetting to flatten the engine breather a little for clearance - some rads are thicker than others too the old standard 3 core is thickest - shold not be used with MG lump though as not really up to the job - nice modern efficient 2 core is.......(& slightly thinner too!)

Thanks for the reply tim that solves the problem with the top of the radiator although i am still wondering why the lower bracket mounting is not in line with the fan. The radiator cowling is barely covering the fan on the windscreen side of the fan. When i have looked at all the photos in the mini magazines the cowl appears to cover nearly all of the fan. Once again thanks for your reply i will order a 1275 gt bracket tonight

Andy - before indulging in credit card abuse may be worth checking you have a fan spacer fitted as these are normally dispensed with / mislaid once its been apart a few times - may solve the clearance issue - the only other thought that springs to mind that may (and I'm mostly guessing here) is if you're using an early lower mounting bracket & shroud - that may cause an odd angle top to bottom???? It's going to be a tight fit regardless!!!!!
