1980's spec mini miglia..whats it worth
Discussion
I've got a 1988 spec mini miglia that has been in my garage for the best part of 16 years unused. Its got a 1000cc engine and all the parts expected on an old race car. The car had very little use before being layed up, just a few test sessions and was never raced, remember negative equity anyone?
I am thinking of selling the car and have really lost touch with what the car may be worth, any suggestions before I advertise and comments on the best place, pistonheads already considered
thanks
Bruce

Mini Migs are now 1275cc. The rules and Regs of them mini7 racing club have moved the game on in terms of safety (Seat frame / Wraparound racing seats and and FIA spec harnesses all compulsory) so it might costs a bit to bring it up to current Mini Mig spec. Mini se7ens are now 1000cc, so with the above mentioned mods, a change of cam and blanking off half the weber you could be back racing again! See mini7.co.uk for details.
hi mate
a difficult car to value as its been stood so long (and yeah, mig's did use to be 1000cc, sevens where 850's) - youngsters eh?
it would not be possible to race it in current migs(or sevens) nowadays as the design and specs of the cars have moved on so much - it would be easier (and cheaper) to start with a std shell and build (or buy) a car
the car its self could not be raced in any form of circuit racing as it stands as the cage, extinguisher, seat and harness would not pass scruitineering. the harness, seat and extinguisher MUST be f.i.a compliant and be date stamped, the cage would possibly be legal, but most scruiteeners look for a f.i.a cage now - which yours is unlikey to be. i doubt other things like the fuel tank etc would pass muster now - the regs and rules have really moved on in the last couple of years.
with some mods you could race it in the xtreme mighties (a 'anything goes (nearly) champ) or, if its a mk 1 (as some migs still where back then) it would be eligible for some of the historic stuff (though it would need a lot more spending on it to make it period and still legal)
your problem is that the 1000cc engine will just not be fast enough (or if it is, reliable enough) to be any fun, most cars are 1275 upwards, though some idiots like me press on with odd stuff (mines a 1071cc) which at least has a bit of relability on its side (touch wood!)
obviousley stuff like the tyres etc will be knackered from been stood.
i guess it would make a sweet hill climber/sprinter or even just a nice track day car.
value?
unseen, i'd say 1500 quid plus for a half decent shell, s brakes, s/c/cr box, weber etc. i doubt the engine is worth much (shame as they where real screamers)
id stick it on ebay - let the great unwashed decide!!!!!
hope the above helps!
