Not saying that I would do it. But in theory how hard would it be to put a BMW speedo into an old mini?? I presume you'd need a cable modification but just wondered what other problems I might encounter and how easy/hard it would be??

Since about 1980 all BMW's have had electronic speedos, so I would guess that it would be a major job to fit an electronic speedo to a 'proper' Mini. Remember, electronic speedos have a sensor on the output side of the final drive (my 728i has it, I think, in the diff casing, for example)
You can change an original speedo for any other cable driven unit and there is a company called 'Speedy Cables' (don't have their number) in London who can calibrate it for you for road wheel size and gearing and make up any special cable you may need.
More trouble than it's worth - you decide. Rather spend my money on making it go faster!!!!!!

I was just wondering about it really and thought I'd ask. I have no aspirations to do it now or in the forseeable future, more because of my hate of MINI than anything else. It wouldn't be in keeping with the look of my car but I suppose I just wondered if it'd been done or thought about before.

Centre speedo'll do me fine for the time being though.

Cheers peter.
