Is 1380cc any good for everyday use ?
Discussion
As pabove posting - no mad cams and it should be fine as an everyday car. If you intend doing a really big mileage without touching it why not stick with 1293/1310/1330cc? Thicker bore walls = more reliability.
On the whole 1380/1400's generally produce more torque. Keep an eye on what you intend putting through a standard box. More than 90lb ft and you'll need to look at different internals.
GeekFact - the MG Metro turbo boost profile was plateaued (by limiting it at 4psi I think) to ensure the A+ turbo unit didn't break 90lb ft as the box was always the limiting factor. That said, thrash one and it'll chew up a box in less than 20K if you are unlucky.

Guru - i await your comments.
buy a saxo vts................
Rich ive thought long and hard but cant reply to that, have you been drinking ?
I have great respect for the caining abilities of the VTS but the mini is just so much cooler
true, but my vts currently has 6 two metre lengths of 2"x2" angle iron in the back and three large tuff crates! try getting that in a mini!
you right about the caining abilities though, third gear is mighty!!!!, though ive always thought that the girly power steering and crap over keen a.b.s spoil what is a fantastic car, i really like the fact thet a vts is identiacal (apart form rear headrests and a couple of badges) to a VTR, so the boy racers tend not to try and race all the time!
Wise words by all here. Mine is only a 1275 but with Stage 3 head etc.. but a standard bottom end. Puts out circa 85 bhp which is about as much as you'd want with standard box etc... Depends how you drive of course. A 1380 with a strong bottom end, mild cams etc... would make a superb, torquey driveable everyday motor.
You guys sound like you need as much of a mini fix as you can get...
Get to your local games shop, buy GT Legends and mini around loads and loads of great circuits having a laugh keeping up with Cortinas and Mustangs (well in the corners!). You'll probably need to upgrade your PCs though! Head on over to the computer games forum if you want to read about it.
