Good evening everyone I have a 1993 rover Mini Cooper and I would like some wide alloy wheels and tyres for her she has had a recent respray and wide arches fitted so just the wheels to finish her off Does anyone know what’s the widest I can fit to her? Thank you

I think the maximum will be 7x13

Historically that would have meant early bearing and other suspension wear but it’s an awfully long time since I had a (classic) Mini so that may no longer be the case.

To fit 7x13 I think you will need to be cutting the front wings to get clearance if not already cut but I think classic minis look great on 10" wheels.

I would suggest asking on one of the Mini specific forums for advice.

Agree, 7x13 will need some wing fettling and 10” are a great look (but need disc conversions to fit on newer cars, newer being a relative term)

Can't beat a set of 10" minilite alloy wheels with 165/70R10 yokkies wrapped on them.

Forgot about the brake discs, I have a set of KAD 4 pot calipers on mine with the cut down vented discs up front so 10" wheels aren't an issue. These are better than what was one there which was a set of metro calipers vandalised by an angle grinder and 10" wheels machined on the inside to give clearance and slick tyres.

Great thank you I shall have to give it some thought I don’t really want to cut any of the arches so will have to consider conversion kit it currently has mini lites on that are black but are quite old now and I would just prefer a wider look on her. 😊

Another thing to consider is that if you do go to the widest wheel and tyre combination you can fit it won't necessarily make the car any better to drive, in fact, it will probably make it worse.

if it is purely the look you are going for it won't be a problem, I'd personally look to fit something that fills the arches, but doesn't go to the maximum.

A hundred years ago i had a mini with 7x13 Revolution wheels with Pirelli P7 Tyres.

The ride Quality was compromised, the rolling resistance probably made the car slower and probably put extra strain on things like ball joints.

It was quite modified before I bought it, and was pretty low so perhaps the front arches had a bit nibbled away-unfortunately I no longer own it so I can’t check.
I’d recommend going on TMF ( the mini forum) -very friendly bunch and someone on there will know if they will fit

If the front wheel arches have been cut to allow the wheels to turn without hitting them, I wouldn't personally fancy going wider than 6 inches.
In my youth I had a couple of minis with 6 x 13 inch wheels (before Rover started offering them from the factory), and they meant that replacing the front wheel bearings was a regular pass time.
The road holding and handling were great, but the steering was heavy and sensitive to road surfaces, and the low profile tyres combined with stiff shocks meant that comfort was a secondary consideration to the aesthetics of the cars.

My current mini has 5 x 12 inch wheels, they don't look as impressive as the larger wheels do, but the car is more pleasant to drive.

I called in at my mates garage on my way home from work to take a couple of pictures of his Lambo orange mini Cooper.

It has the Rover Sportack wide arches and 13 x 6 mini lite style wheels

I know from experience that you need to cut the arches to fit 13x6 wheels when using wheels with a deep dish.
I don't know how much has to be trimmed off with the genuine Rover wheels.

This is mine on 12 inch wheels, I can't remember if they are 5 or 5.5 inches wide (they've been on the Car 30 years this year)

The arches are uncut and the ride quality is good (for a mini)
