Somerford Mini restoration
Discussion
Does anyone know how much the restoration listed on their website costs? I am quite interested in restoring my Mini, but due to a bad experience with my last one (guy left me in the sh1t with no panels and it rotted) I want this one to be done properly. Can anyone recommend Somerford? What about Mini Master in Penrith?

i can definitely recommend somerford minis.
we gave them our racing mini last winter after my dad blew up the engine and my mum decided that it should be given to me rather than to my dad.
they did a complete overhaul of the workings (the body is still in good condition) and then set it up for me instead of my dad. (including engine rebuild, new gearbox, cam passenger seat plus making it road worthy.
they did a top class job but it did cost 7k!
i dont know how much their standard mini rebuilds are tho.

I had a refurbishment quote from Somerford for a Mk1 Super deluxe and this came to £4500 - that's just for body refurb and respray - no engine work.
I ended up going to a local "specialist" as he was available and Somerford had an 18-month wait!
In the end I spent the same money and wished I had been patient.
Somerford's work is superb.
If you have the funds - then I would go with them.

I am planning on keeping my Mini forever if possible, so I would find the money to do it properly. The only thing is that Somerford are miles away from me, and I'm reluctant to take it down and give them a blank cheque. However the girl there emailed me and said it would be about £3k for what I needed (a mini-restoration as listed on their website) and so I have this figure to work with.

Hmmm... the girls that work there are very nice and helpful but bizarrely don't seem to know an awful lot about Minis. I've been in there many a time looking for fairly run of the mill parts, and they've had to ask Pete what I'm on about.
I would recommend you take a trip down there and arrange it so that Pete and / or Graham are there to talk to you about what you want.

I'll bear that in mind! Thanks.
