Speedo not working
Discussion
Got a question I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I'm (still) building a new Mini Marcos. I've presented the car for IVA once, which it failed, and I'm working my way through the list of things that need addressing.
The speedo packed in on the way to the test centre. Looking at the speedo cable (that I had to have made up for the car dur to the different routing/length requirement) I thought the square drive bit that enters the speedo head, was too short. When I sent the cable back to the manufacturer, they suggested that the 'square drive' element of the inner cable wasn't defined enough i.e. wasn't driving the speedo head, just spinning inside.
To that end they sent me a cable with the same length drive cable but more 'square' in profile.
Unfortunately this still hasn't gotten the speedo working.
So my question(s) is:
- Is there a way I can test the speedo head is working (to eliminate this from the equation)?
- How long should the inner cable be, from the top/nipple (in the attached image) into the speedo head, in order to drive the speedo?
- Is it possible to withdraw the inner cable from the outer sheath and safely reinsert it/another? (I ask as if it's possible to have only another inner cable made I'll do that. I realise I may have to straighten the routing to allow the inner to pass, but I'm not sure if with the gearbox end still connected I'd be able to pass the inner through the outer and engage into the gearbox drive. I hope I've explained that well enough).
Thanks for any advice.
