Got a few jobs lined up for the mini before the summer.

Handles pretty well when up to speed but when taking off it really suffers from Axle tramp.

It needs a fresh set of runner all round but I don't think that will help much, esp considering I have a mighty mini head due to go on giving it more power!

I'm probably going to take it to get set up properly but wondered if anyone had any ideas?

It's a 1293 with a HIFF44. Fully stripped out with Gaz coil overs.

Thanks all

It can't really have axle tramp, because..well.. It doesn't have an axle, only drive shafts, if the engine is moving (and causing the exhaust to knock) fit auxiliary engine stabalisers, thermostat to bulkhead, gear box to subframe (assuming yours is a rod change not a remote) if you are getting wheel spin and going nowhere fit a Quaif ATB diff, if it's just pure grip what wheels are on it ?, 10x5 is normally more than enough, 13x7's are going to be less progressive

New dampers I would have thought - fwd wheel spins will tramp if not damped sufficiently

Hi

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sorry for the wrong term, my mate said it was tramping. Basically when I try and take off quickly its spinning and bouncing like a kangaroo!

It has a fibreglass front (which I will change back at some point) so I wonder if there not enough weight on it with it being stripped too??

It has 13x7's on, the tyres are (very) old though so maybe some new rubber will help too?

I'm not sure if its the dampers - although I totally agree with you in principle. I adjusted the coilovers and rear shocks to their softest setting and they were basically new on when I bought the car!?!

The swifttune diff looks interesting... A bit more than I want to spend really but it will get added to the list and if its a must I'll do it!!

Is this a road car or a track car?

Road car - but a weekend toy - I'm happy for it to be totally silly, unpractical and uncomfortable as I don't do many miles in it - I want to get to the point of doing some track days in it too.

Old tyres (how old) are probably a major cause. That and the size of them.

..."fibreglass front" - how much bracing have you added to compensate for the loss of stiffness/fixity between the front sub frame and the bulkhead?

If non, or only minimal, the front will 'hop' in the manner described as the front sub frame and engine assembly attempts to shake off the rest of the car, notably under hard acceleration from standstill.

Well I got the car last year and spent most of the summer working on it but tyres where the last consideration and it got put away for the winter... so I can just say, they are from this millennium .... just

My worry was exactly that - I'm taking it to a specialist and going to get their input - I think I will need to rebuild the front end before long
