Refurbishing Brake Callipers and Rotors
Discussion
I have salvaged some Metro 4 Pot Brake Callipers and Rotors from a Metro that I am salvaging parts from. As they have been sat on the car out in the weather for many years, they need some TLC.
What would be the best way to clean them up? And how do I remove / refit the pistons, do the just pull out?
I was planning on stripping the callipers down and removing the pistons and then dropping them in a bucket of diluted Citric Acid Crystals, a method I have used successfully for de-rusting parts before.
Then dependent upon the condition of the pistons, buying the odd new piston and new seals all around.
I wasn't going to paint them just oil them up to prevent them rusting as I thought I'f leave the colour choice to the buyer, I guess I could prime them, if so what heat resistant paint should I use?
