They were too good to last; i couldn't belive when i picked my mini up last week everything worked but....

One of the (haelogen) headlamps on my italian job was cracked when i bought it last week, so, having a brand new pair not being used, i swapped them into the mini along with some 80/100w H4 bulbs.

None of the front lights now work. The rears and the dash illumination does though I swapped back over to the old ones only to find they dont work now either - even the sidelights. The really strange thing is that when the lights are switched on - the blue full beam marker on the clocks comes on all the time no matter the stalk setting and gets brighter if you flash the full beams. Wiring that i can see looks fine, no fuses away and everything else works ok. Any ideas

Best guess - bad earth causing the circuit to drain through the blue warning lamp on the dash. Check that the headlamp bowls are making good contact with the bodywork, and that any other earth leads in the area are good.

I had this problem and resolved it by changing the sidelight bulbs. Make sure that they are the correct wattage as if they're incorrect for the lamps they'll take all the power and screw your lighting sytem up a fair bit.

Best way to check is to take the sidelights bulbs out and check if the lighting system works without them. If it does then you know it probably the bulbs. That would be the first thing I'd do.

If you still have the problem it could possibly be the halogen bulbs but more likely a bad earth.
