Ok so I am currently restoring a 1968 Mk2 Cooper.

I have been looking everywhere for a boot lid for this car but I now know that they are about as common as hens teeth...

I know this is a long shot but I thought I may as well put up a post on here asking if anyone might have one lying around or know of someone that might have one.

Feel free to message me if you have or know of any around.

Thanks,

Francis

You can obtain a conversion panel and modify a Mk3 boot lid. Not for the purist perhaps but it might do?

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I've seen that setup and also the one that Magnum does but I've seen some people who have gotten parts from them and the quality might not be the best.

I can wait a bit longer to see if anything turns up..

I've just fitted Magnum door skins and repair panels to a Mk1 and Heritage wings, front panel, and flitch panels.

I have to say that the Magnum panels fitted better than the Heritage panels and were half the price.

I was lucky to pick up a half decent boot lid for £85 but even that needed a lot of work to make it good. You may need to bite the bullet and buy a new boot lid

Yeah I am starting to think I might have to get a new one.

This is the Magnum one

Nearly £240 plus shipping over to Ireland.

From what you say the Magnum parts might not be too bad of quality?

I would go for that, it's quite cheap compared to Heritage and the work involved in repairing and existing one. As said I've found Magnum panels to be actually good, and certainly no worse than Heritage

M-machine don't remanufacture that particular type of boot lid.

Early Mk1 and later Mk3 only as far as I can see.

I'll definitely look into that Magnum one in the new year.

I did see genuine Mk2 go for nearly £300 on eBay few weeks ago!!

Thought it worth mentioning that converting a Mk3 bootlid with the Mk2 'kit' mentioned above won't be 100% accurate (although most people probably won't notice), as the curvature of the panel above the number plate recess is slightly different on original Mk2 and Mk3 bootlid pressings.

Also worth mentioning that some very late Mk2s had Mk3 bootlids from the factory, with the normal Mk2 hinged number plate fitment. There was a fair bit of overlap as the Mk3 began production in October '69 and the vary last Mk2s were built in February '70.
