this is probably a stupid question but here goes. i'm upgrading my drum braked all around 1983 mini to have cooper S discs on the front but my question is do i need to change the drive shafts for some different ones to bolt the disc arrangement and hubs onto?

No such thing as a stupid question just a stupid answer. So hopefully this is not a stupid answer!! You will need to change the cv joint as the spline shaft is a bigger diameter. Not sure if the drive shafts are compatible though? long time since I've messed around with drum type setup.

The CV's from an 8.4" braked mini are the same as S ones. You can use the shafts as well. You will need a set of "different" steering arms. I'm not sure which ones though. I just know that there are several different sorts and the wrong sort leaves you with massive tow out. I imagine that the 8.4 braked ones are the same as S ones. The mk1 rack is a different ballgame though.

Greenstuff pads are awesome IMO.

I would take the opportunity to replace the hubnuts as well, I had one strip on me and it was a nightmare.

Good luck with them, despite what others say, I reckon S Disks are adequate for most things.

May be worth dragging the whole lot down to a garage or tyre fitter, and ask them nicely to stick an impact gun on it - that should shift it. Can't imagine how hard it would be to shift otherwise - they're bad enough when they are on the car and you can get someone to stand on the brakes while you tt it with a hammer.

Just a thought, but I think the inner pot joints are bigger on the later cars so you may need new inner joints as well.
Someone else might confirm this, as I don't have much experience with the 80's drum-braked cars.
