Just had a prod round the Mini with the MOT man.

New o/s sill
About 4" of new o/s floor needed to form the "inner sill"
Hole in the o/s floor pan where it kicks up to form the bulkhead
Both rear wheel arches gone through where they "close" the sills necessitating a drop of the sub frame
Patch in n/s sill about the size of a credit card needed

Whilst the MiG kit is out, might as well replace the crusty battery box

Like captain Darling, I made a note in my diary just now. Just wrote "bugger"

One of the reasons I hate minis

In the words of Frank Sinatra, "I've had a few" and every one ended up either rusting faster than i could drive and had mechanical maladiesto match.

Would I have another: not on your nelly, it took more than enough mistakes for me to learn that.

With a Mini of that age, you'll find much, much more. Rear shock turrents... poke. Heelboard (complete). Post 90's Mini's rot in places unimaginable even to the most hardened Mini owners. Sorry.

Now all done and back on the road for another year after sills, floors, battery box and patches in the rear wheel arches to stop the rot getting anywhere close to the rear subframe mounts.

And breathe.....

I bought a brand new Mini in 1981.

Within 14 months there was rust on the wheelarches.

Those were the days.

I sold new Mini's when they were on run out. We quite often had to send them to the bodyshop before we could hand them over to the customer due to rust

Sometimes easier to do a whole floor subassembly
