Hi all, new on here and joined to ask a question of a wider audience,
I am almost at the end of a complete nut and bolt rebuild of an 83 Mayfair, and when bleeding the brakes the brake pedal travels its full distance to the floor but when some pressure is built up in the system the pedal travels less than half way and comes to a solid stop, not a spongy soft pedal but almost like a metal on metal feel, the complete system has been renewed including master cylinder, pressure regulator valve, brake pipes copper and flexi and all new slave cylinders, and I have changed the master cylinder and the result is the same, I have also bypassed the pressure regulator valve in order to check it and had the same result.
Has anyone on here had a similar problem or can anyone shed some light on the issue,
any genuine help would be greatly appreciated

it sounds like you have fitted the calipers on upside down

bleed nipples go at the top

its a common mistake made when cars are built back up from parts

What condition are your adjusters in?! The rears are either free to move or they're not and are simple to adjust. The front adjusters can be a complete pain in the arse.

Our 1980 998 City has drums all round, the adjusters are like little barrels with a peg poking out the top. We had to replace our back plates at one stage because the adjusters became too loose! I'd adjust the fronts, come to test the brakes and the movement of the shoes etc. would cause the adjusters to rotate and I'd end up pumping the pedal to get them to work!
