I would speak to ML Motorsport, or AC Dodd personally. I have used both and they are absolutely spot on.

Gearbox - John at Guessworks (Rugby). He rebuilds motors as well.

MED for the machining work.

I'd be wary of a s/hand motor. Usually for sale for reason (that said, some are fully receipted and have mileage - strong money usually applies). Have you tried theminiforum.co.uk?

Any 2nd hand engine and box needs a rebuild.

Hence getting prices of £2500-£3500 for an engine and box built.

Depending on who builds the engine depends if comes with carbs n dizzy matched.

Add on price of buying an engine to get built and could be on £4000.

Tmf like alot of owners forums have inflated prices.

There are proper ways of building an engine, then there are ones which may use new parts but which are built quickly.
A proper build will involve a lot of measuring, machining, re-measuring, more machining, then very accurate assembly. To do this properly on just the engine can easily take 35 hours at, say, £45 to £50 per hour. Now add the parts which must include pistons, bearings, oil pump, camshaft, cam sprockets and chain, valves, springs, gaskets, distributor, water pump, rocker shaft bushes, primary gear bushes.

On top of that there is the gearbox re-build and, as above, John at 'GuessWorks' (see The Mini Forum) is one of the best.

Now add a new clutch, clutch release bearing, clutch arm and possibly a clutch slaver cylinder.

There is the old adage: 'Cheap', 'reliable', 'powerful' - you can have any two of those, but never all three! Most professional builders will never do 'cheap' because unhappy owners then complain, often on forums.
