Sunroof Bloody Sunroof
Discussion
The sunroof on my 1989 flame leaks like a bugger. Every time I drive I get a wet bum and every time I corner I get dripped on by gathered water. The glass looks too big and has a bigger arced bend than the roof, hence leaving a gap. How easy is it to fill the roof in?
Failing that I know that you can fit the cloth sunroofs that take up most of the roof. How difficult are these to fit and what sort of costs are we talking.

The Webasto electric item is about £900 fitted. Its quite heavy though.
You can get a carbon fibre roofskin with exposed weave for about £400 that just screws on. You cut the entire roof off apart from a 2 inch rim around the entire outside, drop the skin on and fix it down with race fastners.
Job done!

When I rolled my Cooper 'S' (oh dear!) we fitted a new roof panel in an afternoon and painted it the next day. All you need is an air chisel to get the old panel off, an angle grinder, a MIG welder and a 3/16"drill. You take the old roof off with the air chisel, angle grind around the edge, drill 3/16" holes about every 3/4" around the flange on the new roof panel, fit it into place and weld through the 3/16" holes, working your way around a bit at a time, rather than doing all the holes in order, to ensure no distortion.
Then grind the welds with a 1/4" wie grinding wheel. On mine I got some liquid fibreglass resin, added hardener and poured it into the gutters, spreading it out with a paint brush and leaving it to set. It does look original.
Then just prime and paint.
The roof panel cost me about £100, but guru 1071 will give you a correct price from MSS.
PS You have to remove the head lining and if replacing a sun roof, you'll need a new one (from a scrapper?).
