Mk1 Rear Light Conversion

I can't answer your question but was thinking the other day about how a neighbour in the early 1970s used to buy and repair minis to sell on - a modification he often did was to put the lights from a Mk2 on to Mk1 Minis - strange how things change!
I do recall fitting Mk2 rear lights onto Mk.1 Mini rally cars because they were bigger and so safer.I may go for Mk2 lights, less hassle just need to save lots of pennies for a hinged number plate boot lid ..why are they so expensive! Funny you should bring up the trends through the years, as an owner of a 1st generation Bini i was thinking how much bigger everything is on the current model, I can see people in years to come hankering after that Mk1 Bini look just as we do with the classics!
I have and to do it so it looks right took me as long to do the rear end including bootlid as it did the rest of the body. The magnum plates were terrible fit and a huge amount of work and panel beating to get right hence why many are the wrong angle and profile. I believe WP do them and they look like a better fit but I dont know ? If i did it again I would look for mk1 rear sections or buy a whole heritage rear panel to get the sections from as welding them in is the easiest bit.
