hi my Dad has just purchased a 988cc H reg mini city and is having problems with it. When he gets it into 4th gear and puts his foot down it hesitates and does not pull properly. We have replaced the plugs, airfilter, points & condenser, fitted a different carb from a previous 988cc mini, adjusted the tappets and altertered the timing. These have made an improvement but it still is not right.
The reason we swapped carbs is because the old one had been mucked about with and was impossible to set up.

has any one got any ideas as were stuck?

Are you running the correct needle? Also got it set up with the correct mixture and dash pot oil?

Check the fuel pressure.

Check the timing.

Check the float bowl for crap.

It is doing it in 4th as it is slower through the rev range. This could either be the timing or something do do with the dashpot sticking, jumping. Make sure it moves smoothly.

My birds 998 city was a very quick car. They are good engines. It had a top speed of 110mph (actually measured) which was pretty impressive if you ask me.

Hi we've found the problem the fuel pipe was touching the exhaust mainfold so alot of the fuel was evaporating before it got to the engine. we have bent the fuel pipe away to stop this but when my Dad has time he's going to make up a new pipe to completly avoid the exhaust mainfold. Alreay the mini is more responsive. Thanks for the help given
