Im having my 1986 mini mayfair restored and I don't know what colour I should have it.... any suggestions
I guess it's largely down to what you want from your Mini and what you intend to do with it in the future...We have two Minis in the queue awaiting restoration, the 68 Morris Cooper is going to be restored to it's original 1979 spec (it has lots of custom made stainless steel bracketry made by the previous owner) which includes it's original Tartan red with black roof.
Our little 1981 Austin Morris City is a different kettle of fish, it was originally white with red, white and blue stripes and a black and white hounds tooth interiour. It's been Fiat Lord blue with a cowprint interior. It's been ratted (fairly unintentionally ) with a mixed interiour before finally ending up white again with pink wheels and flowers on it (I'm outnumbered 3-1 by girls) and a tartan interior... while it sits patiently waiting to be loved again we've discussed lots of colours from yellow with a black roof to match my 78 Allegro estate, through bright green, orange and now down to a toss up between white again or baby blue? Only time will tell!...
If it is a MK3 and you don't want it as it left the factory, then my voice would be Java Green all over and drop it down on some cool 10" minilites. OR I would do a MK3 Cooper S replica but paint it and obscure original S colour which real ones are long gone. Easy to do too, for me making a MK3 look like a MK1 has been done enough already.
