Hi all, 1st things 1st i guess to be true full i dont even 100% know whats bin done to this mini from what i can tell from the web its got the 1275 engine in it(i could be wrong)

also seems to have a part missing ??

only seen it tho other day passed its mot but thats not saying its ok lol.

My main Qs are.

I see you guys are using honda and vauxhall engines i see you guys say like b16,red top ect what car has the b16,red top in it?

is supercharging worth it ? or am i gonna feel like i still need to put that 1.8-2L in it ? had fast cars in the past but loving the mini even with its lil engine !!!

what engines are the easiest to put in the mini ?
and how tune able are the engines ?(dont want to fit the wrong one and do this again the wife will kill me lol )

i am wanting to do as much as this i can with out help welding ect i can get friends ect to do but like i say want to do as much i can .
i know i will need a subframe to fit a bigger engine (im looking to make this fast 0-80mph) but i dont want it to sound like its reving its arse off at 80 witch mine sounds like its doing lol.
also will be using this as a run around when done (not big trips but every day sort of thing)

Thats about it really any help like matching subframes with engines ect. sorry its alot to ask its just i want to buy things slowly then put it all in the mini in one go (spread the cost so the wife dont know to much lol)

thanks for your help

It is always a bit hard to tell some one what to do. The bike engines are quite good as they are not to heavy. Some of the other swaps mess up the balance, The supper charger makes for good power and there is some experience of the mod on around.

The part that is missing is a breather. They were not fitted to all cars with some just no having the hole throw the casting. If there is no hole then no problem.

Looks to be open could this harm the engine?
I'm guessing if something went into it may harm it but I mean apart from that will it lose oil etc?
I'm going to have a look around to try and find the part you said about as I'm guessing it needs it. Any chance you could show me what it looks like so I know I'm getting the right part, that would be a great help.

The bike engine sounds good. Looks like the R1 engine seems to be cheapest found kits?

If it was me (and one day I hope it is) I'd look at the small block Vauxhall conversion

Subframes available, use diesel gearboxes for usable ratios, fit in standard front end

You need to get on to 16vminiclub and have a read

The filter unit is only a tube filled with wire wool. The should not cost much second hand. The pipe from the top normally goes to the carb, it can be left open or fit a K@N filter to the top.

It is a 1275, you can tell from the angle of the heater tap. I would say the reason the breather is missing is that the engine is from a Metro which had the upright breather, the late 1275 Minis had an angled breather to clear the brake servo and the 998 didn't have a breather there at all. You could probably get hold of the correct one quite easily.

My personal preference would be a turbocharged 1275 as you can get more power and better fuel economy than with a supercharger, it's also a bit easier as you can use Metro turbo parts. I don't like the Vauxhall or Honda conversions as they just don't suit the car, they also put a lot of weight right at the front of the car and really do require a flip front. It depends what you want though, but you can definitely get all the power you need from a 1275.
