i need help!
i bought a mini 1983 austin mini, nice mini, needs help getting back on the road, now i bought it as a not runner, i jump started it and it starts, beautiful exhaust system to the car! but it doesn't drive, i put it into first and when i lift the clutch i just hear a whirring noise and nothing else, the guy said that its the cv joint or drive shaft but then i heard from a fellow mate that it aynt the drive shaft or cv joint, if it was it would still drive but when you turn it would make a funny noise, crunching noise, and he said its the clutch that's gone, now if anyone could help me it would be amazing, i just need to know the exact problem to be able to fix it,
by the way im a nearly turned 18 who's passionate about mini but i aynt a mechanic. NEED HELP! as the family now want to sell as its turning into a bit of a nightmare frown

In the nicest possible way, if you are going to run a classic car, especially a Mini, you will need a fair amount of mechanical ability and a good tool kit.
Without seeing and inspecting the car there really is no way to diagnose the problem with any accuracy. However, as I guide it could be any of the following, or something else entirely:

Clutch plate worn out
Transfer gear, primary gear or gearbox input gear broken
Gear linkage not selecting gears due to failure
Differential pin sheared
Failure of planet wheel(s) in differential
Crownwheel/pinion broken
Inner drive shaft joint broken
Outer CV joint broken on one side.

i mean i have friends who are in mechanic's but i want to get the car working and started before i can start to take the car around to get it fixed etc, the guy i bought it said it was the outer cv joint but i cant be really sure of what the problem is, i have given it to a family garage and he will find out what it is, but i thought i would try to find out what it might be mean while so i would have some knowledge, i mean i bought the car for two reason, so when repairs show up i could get stuck in and find out more and also because i love the car itself!
