Hi,

I own a 79 mini with a 1275 A+ engine in it. I have started putting fuel injection on the car but i first need to convert to negative ground. Some of it is clear. Disconnect the battery, radio, revcounter and alternator and then turn arround the battery and connect it the other way arround. I find some manuals of people using a dynamo then getting rid of the remaining magnetism and then just reconnecting the thing and just start the engine after also swapping the pins on the coil. My car has an alternator so i am not so sure, i would say it needs to be rewired to make sure the power outlet B+ is going to the battery plus pole? What with the other two connection on the alternator, do they need changes? What about the starter motor?
I am an engineer, but i would like to be sure before getting sparks or hot components...

Thanks,

Mark

If it has an alternator I'd suggest it is already negative EARTH (Ground is USA). There were some positive earth alternators but much earlier (60-70's) & I doubt you'd have one on a 79 car.
Check where the battery earth strap goes. I reckon it will be to the negative terminal.

If you do need to convert it a lot will need replacing, especially the alternator & any radios etc.

Man do i feel stupid now. You are off course all right, the car is already negative earth. I now know how i got the idea in my head; i tried to install another tacho last year and that did not work because it was a positve earth tacho. I my memory i stored that the problem was on the car and i did not check since I only just started to think about it now preparing for the injection conversion...
Anyway; quick job done. Thanks a lot!
