Anyone who has been on this particular forum for any length of time will recall me moaning about my old clubbie.

Well, sorry but here we go again!

Having failed to sell it in April after getting a new MoT, I decided this year I would try and use it a bit more, I have entered it into a couple of hillclimbs later in the year, bought new race suit & helmet, sorted out my MSA licence and BARC membership.

Week before last the radiator burst turning the car into a kettle.
So ordered a new rad, hoses etc.

Decided to do the valve clearances whilst the car was off the road but then decided to
re torque the head first as it was a little over 500 miles since the rebuild.
Head stud has sheared level with the block.....
So from a simple radiator replacement I now have an engineering job on my hands.

This car is possessed of that I have very little doubt.

Why didn't I accept the offer that was made on the car, it was lower than I wanted knowing how much I have spent on it but at least I would have been rid of the poltergeist!

Suppose I could always get the head unleaded whilst it is off or replace it with a better one.......

Any suggestions what is going to break next?

5 hours sleep later...

OK Rant over.
Busy day, went into the garage at 10.00 for a bit of R&R and now this.

When I had it prepped for MoT in March the fuel tank decided the petrol was better off in the spare wheel well.
And despite all the suspension being new, there's a "clunk" when I drop it off the drive.
And when I took the radiator out, one of the long bolts that hold the radiator/engine mount bracket to the alloy casting on the block had mysteriously unscrewed and wont go back in....

Having driven it a bit over the last few weeks I was actually getting to like it.

Went into the garage this morning for a screwdriver and I'll swear the thing was laughing at me.

On a serious note, if anyone is still with me, what is the head gasket of choice at the moment please.

its a mini thing, thats why we love em so..

Think the composite gaskets are better than the copper ones, sure there were threads on this back along.

It was an AF470 that I took off and it seemed to stand up well to 220lb/ft compression but gone for a BK450(?) this time
New head studs, uprated pushrods(!)

Still think the time has come to move on.....
