There are a number of companys in the mini mags that do exchange heads. Its worth a look just to get a base price evewn if you dont use one of them.

Find a local engineering shop, probably cheaper.

There's an engineering company near me so I shall pop in and ask if they will do it and prices, just wondered if anyone had any base price or "ideal" price for me to work on?

The magazine companies are usually in the £250-300 exchange region, that's for a fully reconditioned head.

Engineering company depends on what they charge/hr and how long they think it will take.

Get the valve guides replaced and have the head skimmed for a cost comparison.

Okay well I will go tomorrow and inquire into how much they will charge, is there any other parts that are worth replacing whilst its been done?

I would have the valve guides done, but only skim the head if it needs it. I only suggested it as a price comparison.

Get any threads checked while you're there.

Playing devil's advocate here, but if you end up going for a full head rebuild then why do it at all until you have a problem?

In my experience old Minis always have something more pressing or fun to spend your money on.
