Hi.

My mates looking for a classic mini project. If anyone has one laying about that they're looking to get rid of let me know.

Preferebly based in the north west (lancashire, derbyshire, cheshire, merseyside) but may consider other arears depending on price/condition.

cheers
Pete

ive bought and sold minis for 20 years, I know them inside out and back to front

I can tell you with 100% certainty that you will not find a project car that's rolling and doesn't need any welding for £800 quid.

that sort of car was fetching £1500 five years ago.

if you find such a car for so little money in 2013, you will be very, very lucky.

ive paid 800 quid for pure breakers, that are so rotten the shell just pulls apart.

constructive enough for you now??

have a tissue.

I think you mentioned structural welding not being needed, guru was spot in with what he said. I would go as far as to say 1500 would be a bargin, because there would be 3-4 k worth of repairs required on such a vehicle. A 1275 engine costs 800. Subframes, 2-4 hundred, Christ a set of old chrome bumpers are 70 notes.... You may not thought it was constructive but it actually was, because if you get a car anyway near that price it's going to cost you a lot before the ticket runs out or kill you when it literally falls apart . Have a quick look on fleabay....

You can just get lucky, of course, but it is very unusual.
A few years ago I bought a really scruffy Mini 1000 Mayfair which had been hand painted in dull black with a white(ish) roof. It really looked dreadful, but it had to be sold so I paid £150 for it. Surprise, it was rust-free. I don't know how, but all it needed was a new wheel arch lip on both front wings as a previous owner had fitted silly wheel arch extensions. I made some up using some sheet steel and my Cooper 'S' as a pattern. However, it needed a complete rebuild in every other area plus total repainting inside & out.
These days it is unlikely a rust-free Mini can be bought for much less than £1800 and even then some other mechanical re-building and a lot of painting would be needed.
Classic cars are simply not cheap.

And thats the strange thing. Some classics are cheap. Moggies, MGBs, Midgets and Spitfires cost the same now as they did 10 years ago but Minis and Escorts have gone through the roof.

Saying that, there is still the chance of a lucky buy, I bought my Mini three years ago for 400 quid, running and solid.
