Hi. I've just bought another mini, but I'm going to be doing 300 miles a week in it. I want to know what the best / easiest / most cost effective solution to not having to fill up so often.

Is it possible to install a larger petrol tank from another car or would I have to have a right and left hand tank [although surely this is quite a lot of work and would cost me quite a bit]?

Hope you can help.

Thanks

twin tanks would be the way to do it.

ive got two minis on the road, one has a four gallon tank, I run out of petrol all the time in it!, they other has twin tanks, so holds 10 gallons - its quite a novelty to only have to fill up every blue moon!

The above is the best option I think as it looks good on a mini and the parts are not to hard to find. The other option is to fit a race style tank in the boot. This will take up a good part of the space and require the boot to be opend to fill it but no body work mods to fit and when you get read of the car you can put the orginal tank back in.

Thanks Dan - any idea where I could get one. I don't need the space particularly. Use to have to fill up via the boot, as I had a TVR a while ago!! Thanks for the advice

Thanks Guru. Probably will end up doing this, and it will be so nice not to have to fill up every third day!

Thread Hijack

Strange how a car can stand all winter and as soon as you arrange to go for an MoT, there's a familiar smell in the garage...
Seems the original fuel tank had been repaired at some time in its life and has now failed...
Before I go about buying new (eeek), anyone got a decent spare tank for a 71 Clubby and live within travelling distance of N Yorks? Scotch Corner area.

Sorry to hijack
Thanks

Hi Tony,
Is that a 5.5 gall or a 7.5 gall tank you need. The standard one is, I think, a 5.5 gallon.

Hi Peter
I guess it is the smaller one although the larger one would be useful sometimes.
71/72 clubby 1000 originally
suppose the smaller one is lighter.

Tony

The tank is the one where the retaining strap lies in a vertical plane, around the tank rather than across it if that makes sense.

I think I've got a 5.5 gallon I could let you have, but I'm in Cambridgeshire. Do you want me to see if I can find it?

By the way, if you fit a RH tank to a car with a 7.5 gallon LH tank that'll give 13 gallons total capacity which would give over 400 miles range with a standard engine.

Peter
If it is going spare, I'll certainly buy it off you (inc P&P)
I assume these things are postable, as long as they are empty.....

I'll see if I can find a good 5.5 gallon tank in my shed full of parts tomorrow.
All the best.
