Hi to you all, Im new to the Mini forum. I just picked up a 1990 Mini Cooper (carb) at the weekend, and picked up the Haynes Manual as with a previous posting, I cant seem to locate the correct wiring diagram. I want to see the wiring details regarding the temp sender and gauge, the temp gauge doesnt work but when I earth the sender wire , the gauge doesnt move. I also want to see the wiring details regarding the Aux fan circuit.

Cheers

Welcome to our little Mini section of PH.
The 1990 wiring diagram seems not to exist. I have searched and can't find one, so we used the diagram for the 1984 3-dial model as a basis. It seems to be mainly the ignitin circuit which is quite different as the ballast resistor ignition is replaced by 12v coil and an electronic distributor which, as I found out, has two wires to it instead of just one as points-type have. All is OK with mine now as the dizzy is now correctly wired in.
I think the temp sender wiring is identical to the 1984 or 1988 cars, and the Haynes Manual does show them. In your case it sounds like the sender itself - try changing that first before diving in behind the inst. panel.
On mine the tacho won't work, so that looks like a bigger problem. If necessary I guess I'll rip out the old one and fit a new Smiths 0-8000 unit.
It does seem a bit crazy that the 1990-1 carb 1275 cars don't have a wiring diag, including the RSP's. But, that was Rover for you!

I think ive always used the 1988on wiring diagram, but youre right about the aux fan not being shown. I converted my fan to come on manually via a dash mounted swith and you have to provide a 12v supply to do so.

I have a Rover workshop manual CD at home - I will take a look and see if there are any wiring details on it later tonight.

OK, the CD has a complete set of wiring diagrams. You want me to burn you a copy? Just send me your address and I'll post you a CD.

Peter - you want one too???

Edit - hmmm, some of it relates to MPI models, but there is a "3rd edition" and an earlier edition on there.

That would be great, James, many thanks. I'll email you my home address.
Are you near Hitchin, Brioss? If you are we could meet up and compare our 1990 cars.
