After many years without a Mini, we are looking at a Hornet in the next few days. I'm assuming these have the same potential problem areas as Minis, but are there any other pitfalls I should be looking for or parts that are no longer available?
Mrs really wants a Cooper Sport Pack but I'm sure she will be smitten smile

The hard to find bits seem to be the chrome trim parts. If you find one with good chrome the rest is straightforward.

Yes all the usual Mini rust spots to check, it is essentially a Mini with a boot extension, no difference really. The early cars do offer a cheaper alternative to buying the equivalent age Mk1 Mini which are becoming silly money for patchwork quilts. Buy a dry suspension pre '66 and you won't go far wrong.

We did have a look but it needed quite a lot of small jobs doing and also the seats needed replacing or recovering, and the dashboard had split along the front edge of the plastic which would have been a right old pain to repair or replace. It was a bit more of a project than I fancy taking on at the moment, and for the money and the repair cost we can get a half decent late Cooper Sportspack - that's the other option smile

Hornets/Elf have quite some special or unique parts. Not only trim, but interiour, chassis, and some mechanics (like mk3 door locks, handles etc. Soo for the best results, one should look for a good complete example, perfarably with a good interiour t keep the resto costs down.
