Went looking for an oil leak today, no seriously...

It would appear that I've got engine oil moving through into the CV joint cup (RH), seaping out of the boot and spraying nicely onto the exhaust down pipe causing a nice 'misty blue smoke' to trail behind!

Should this even be possible let alone common before I splash out on a new CV joint???

if the little core plug in the end of the potjoint is loose, then engine oil can get into the joint. it only happens with the cheapo aftermarket ones though.

Yup , Rich's right , oil leaks past the core plug and fills joint with oil , also seen it on gen stuff back in the days of warranty .

im not as old as you, so will have to take your word for what happened in the 1980's...

Oh ok, so potentially I could tease it out and fix it back in with some Araldite?
