when I eventually get a proper job I will need some waterproof (ginetta ruled out), reliable (mini ruled out) yet funky transport to get me to and from work quickly so I'm seriously considering the new mini...went into the dealer to be told that it had been facelifted and that the old ones will be seriously depreciating now...so how different is it to the outgoing (2001-2004) model?

also, I was going to go for the cooper S on a 52 reg but now I think I'll push the water based transport implement out and go for a new one...at least that means I can spec it myself, but is it worth it? thanks

I can't remember all the details of the face lift, but it's something along the lines of new lights, different bumpers, more cubby holes inside, the clock has moved - stuff like that. www.mini2.com has probably got a full list of changes

When we looked at buying ours used prices were nearly as much as buying new, so we spec'd a new one up so we got exactly what we wanted.

If you do spec your own, but intend to replace the car after 2 or 3 years you might want to consider what other people would look for on the car - alloys, air con etc. to help the used value. Also, don't forget your TLC pack.

Cheers

Neil

52 was the very first of the Cooper S allocation I believe.

If you can find one a little later then I think it would be a bit better.

Why not a proper Mini?

You can make them reliable...

A friend of mine is 6'7"

He managed fine in lots of old minis, just had to reverse the seat rails. Almost like Hightower in Police Academy, he probably could have driven from the back!!

I can just, only just mind you, drive in the back seats.

Obviously on private ground...
