Is it worth anything??
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a classic mini in a garage, completely dis-assembled.
It's an '82 shell, 1275 engine with what seems a special gearbox.
Other bits; a lovely very loud RC40 exhaust, 10x6 minilite wheels, a very aggressive cam, and i'm sure more fun stuff.
Complete car just in a lot of pieces. Shell has virtually no rust but does require some seem welding at a couple of points.
It's been dry stored since coming off the road about 6 years ago, at which point i decided to half a rebuild and took it apart, unfortunately i never got round to rebuilding it and the cost of the storage is now getting silly for something someone else could use.
The only parts i know that need replacing are the flywheel housing (cracked when taking off thecrank), crank (got a little too warm when coming off) and loom (easiest way to remove one is cut it out). The passenger door has a horrible kink in it but i think could be repaired.
Is this all worth something and if so what do people think as to how much??
Or should i just send her to the great scrappy in the sky??
I can get some piccies up later when i get back to my home pc.

Cheers guys.
When i get back in the right country i will get it out, inventory it all and get a load of pics. Only a week away!
I only just realised that it's actually been 10 years it's been off the road and in storage! Eek!
Although having started this thread i'm starting to get all those ideas of doing it myself again!! I love my Lotus, but can you ever beat a Mini for smiles per mile!! Grr!!

My brother got a mini in the same condition and with a 1275 and 1000 engine for £500
That was a good buy then. Id have said the OP would be looking at between £600 and £1000. Put it this way, I scrapped one similar the other year, with a working 1275 engine and minilite wheels - I got nearly £1400 in total just from all the bits.So after failing to back in the UK (Cheers to the MoD) still no pictures!!
Also going to speak to some mini specialists to see how much it would be to have them restore it! I got rather cold feet as soon as the idea of selling it sunk in!
If it's not to stupid then i might do it, failing that i'll sell it for parts to help some other mini's live on!

Paying someone else to do work on it will cost a fortune! Only problem with parting the mini up is that it does take a lot of time & effort taking the car apart, advertising each part and posting them off etc... You might be better off looking on a certain auction site and see how much similar mini "projects" go for. I think it will too but as long as i can get someone to get the shell fully prepared and the engine properly built then i don't mind doing the nuts and bolt together. As for pulling it apart, it might not look it in th epicture but that is an empty shell with only the rear subframe and one door attached. So most of the hard work done!
Anyone on here had a mini restored recently? rough ideas on the price to expect would help!

I meant stuff like all the little bits. I recently sold the steering wheel (25quid), steering column (19quid), headlight switch (10quid). Someone even paid me £28 for the eyeball air vents and asked me to ship them to brazil.... someone from Mexico even bought the jack out of the boot for about £30!!! Its amazing what people buy. I think the only bit I couldnt sell was the wiring loom!Gassing Station | Classic Minis | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
