I am very familiar with 1275 engines with all sorts of cams in them.

I have acquired a 1440 engine with a 320/320 cam running through normal S rockers, 37/30 head with huge ports (sleeved rods) and a 45 weber on a 7" manifold.

I remember Vizard saying big motors tame wild cams.

I'm curious how this will compare to something like a 649 in a 1275.

Does anyone have any experience of this.

I'm ideally looking for something which isn't more wild than a 649 in a 1275.

A 649 cam (or modern profiled equiv) is the full race cam in a 1293cc Mini Miglia. They are driveable (low down) on management - but certainly nothing you'd want to slip the clutch and sit in traffic with.

I had a 1380 with a kent 296 cam. Slow starts were ok or fast but there was no between. Still used on the road but I dident like driving it in a Q.

I had an A35 with a 1275 midget engine with a 649 in it.

For me it's about as far as you'd want to take it power spike wise.
