Just a quicky, got my block back from the engineering shop with new cam bearings. The largest, front, has an oil feed hole, the other two don't seem to. Is that correct?
Correction: Had another look, the central bearing also has a hole through to an oil way but the smallest, only a groove. Presume this is correct.
Why would there be two identical gaskets, but in different material/thickness for the front plate to block?
thanks

Hi Tony,
I think the holes in the cam bearings are correct. I also got my block back on Saturday with new cam bearings (and a bore to +0.060") and I'll have a look this evening.
he gasket thickness is not important as the cam position is determined by the cam retaining plate on the front of the front plate. There is plenty of oil pump engagement at the other end.
Just one small thing, if you are going to fit duplex timing gears and chain, make sure that the timing cover does not have the oil splash flange inside as this can hit the chain and you wonder what the graunching noise is when you first start the engine! If it has, just get an angle grinder and reduce the flange height to no more that about .10".
I hope your re-build is going OK. I shall do the initial trial-build later this week then strip it all out again and get the block decked to suit the pistons (Hepolite 21253's).

Thanks Peter, Will check the flange, having to use a second hand front plate as previous owner has stripped a thread. Luckily, now have another knackered 1275 for stuff like that.
Rebuild going very slowly as work and other things are getting in the way. Why do I have to go to work all the time.
Good luck with the Enduro car.

I've got a spare front plate for a GT engine i.e. shaped for a tensioner, if you need one. Just let me know.
If you do find any stripped hole, just drill out and tap to the next size. it's usually the 1/4" unf ones which go, so take them out to 5/16" unk and cut hex head screws down to suit.
By the way, I did check the cam bearings and the one at the oil pump end does not have an oil way hole, so you're fine.
