As you will see (there will be more posts) on minis smaller is better. I found that 12" worked well for me but most prefure 10". 13" for size of car are over the top and dont work well with the suspension set up.

What are of the suspention are you looking to change or all?

Solid mounted front subframe, negative camber lowere arms (dont go to far) good shocks and ajustable rear camber plates at the back, then get set up is a good starting point. But do check that every thing else is an good order to start with.

ah ok, i thought as i was fitting bigger engine/more power that bigger wheeels would be required.
id like to fit miglia arches as i love the wide look. if i got 6*12 alley cats (or 10s) what sort of spacers would i need?

It is on the hole a bad idear to run spacers. The wider you go the more setup you will have to change to get it work properly and the more load you will put on the wheel bearing. The look is good but you will lose out on the way the car drives. A migler runs vary wide wheels and ajustable suspention to off set this to make them handel properly on track. They would be a bad car to drive on the road and with the pothols probaly brack.

ok dan thanks. id be looking to change as much suspension as needed to get the widest(but most usable)i can get.
if i was running 12*6 wheels what arches would be best if you dont think miglias would work well? and what suspension set up?

Depends on what offset your wheels have, But you can get miglia style arches in diffrent sizes (Have a look on the mini parts web sites and magazens). So you should be able to get somthing like the look you are after just not quite as wide. You can go about that wide but to do a proper job dose require a lot of work.

6x12s will probably foul on the front arches on full lock, about 1" needs trimming off the leading edge of the arch and front panel, more if the car is lowered. Rears are ok unless you want to carry rear-seat passengers when they will rub on full compression, avoid Koni shocks as these are soft on compression and stiff on extension, wrong way round for a mini despite being optional fit on late minis.

ok so after speaking to watson engineering about the kit they are building up for me they told me the hubs are metro and will require 13" wheels.
not a problem as i want the 7x13 JBW alley cats.
will mini 7x13 wheels from mini spares fit the metro hubs or not?
and how much body needs chopping away? is it alot of work? or will a few hours with an anglegrinder work?
