850, wand to remote change
Discussion
Hello all,
I would like to change my 850's gearbox to a full synchro box. What is the best way to do this?
Should i have my box refitted with the correct/ uprated parts, or can you/ is it cheaper to get a exchange box?
I also want to update the electrics, moving from a dynamo to alternator, any information on this is greatly recieved.

the box is easy
use a 4 sync box + the conversion kit that 1970-1972 vans had which allowed a magic wand lever to fit a remote box.
simple - four sync with a magic wand lever!

That's a great idea - I had no idea such a thing existed.
Will it work on a rod change box?
no, its a plate (plus other bits) that bolts to a remote box, it locates in the four bolt holes that the remote normally bolts to, that allows the magic wand lever to control the remote box. Will it work on a rod change box?
they are quite hard to find, thats the only problem

If you decide to do away with gearbox ....I would possibly like to purchase from you...along with any other parts to make my 60`s pick up back to original
I would love to but i have decided that i am going to pull the engine and put in a modern unit. The car is a matching numbers (verified) model. All data plates match and the service history is complete if a little old now (paper is wearing out (I was thnking of laminating it for preservation) The old engine and gearbox+linkage is going to be restored to the most original spec and used as a show piece; and kept with the car.I'm putting in a 1293 with a big SU carb 1.5", and 276 cam with hopefully a 5 speed or a long diff with some nitrous for fun.
I really wanted to supercharge the 850 (and indeed i might in the future funds allowing) but it would need a lot of work, 850's are weak at the top end due to the cam bearings being one short....
I'v got a little gem of a 850 being a super delux with all the bits and bobs, but i need to make it safer and more modern world friendly as i actually want to use it for 5000 miles a year......
850 units are not easy to find now in good nick, I noted mine has double valve springs speedwell marked up with i popped the rocker cover, as i have never had it running i dont know what else has been done.... but i i have lots of ambigious reciepts for performance parts......
