New owner needing advice!
Discussion
Hi all, to stop the cross posting rule i'll just quickly post a link to my thread in the readers' cars section here:
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Basically i'm looking for some recommendations on what to paint the engine with! The block and head, as it's all going to be out fairly soon in order to paint the entire shell, so I figure I might aswell tidy the engine up aswell! Also, the car does run at the moment, quite well actually, but it's been sat doing nothing but the odd start for about 7 years, so aside from the obvious, is there anything I should strip apart and inspect/clean/replace?
Thanks guys!

you can buy engine paint in either a spray can or a brush tin which goes on fine and looks good.
the trick is several thin coats, rather than one super thick one.
its also better (if your using the spray can) to turn the engine upside down and spray it first. then spray it right way round - then all the awkward bits get a covering

I'd be replacing the points in the distributor if it's not electronic ignition, major clean up of the carb, new plugs and leads, you probably want to do a compression check. If you have the engine out it's worth having the head off and giving it a good de-coke. Replace the gearchange oil seal at the back of the gearbox as well while it's out they always leak. Then obviously an oil and filter change. other than that if it run's and doesn't smoke it should be ok. Tbh nearly every tinned paint is good for engines if its painted on thin, good luck I'm just in the middle of a 1380 race engine build
Some engine paint here from mini spares - http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&p...
