Wheel bearings?
Discussion
Well I seem to be nearing the marathon house renovation, and once I repair the ol' Volvo I might just get back to the ol' mini.
One thing that niggles me (more than the rest) is the play in the front wheel bearings.
The car has new (well it was 4 year/500 (yes) mile ago) Minispares "S" disc conversion, with IIRC new bearings etc. There is play in the bearings no matter what torque they are tightened to.
Now I cannot recall if there should be spacers in between the inner & outer races and if there should be, if I put them in or not?
What other possibilities could there be for wobbly wheels.
I like a little play in the bearing but this seems too much.
Get that and the running in done and an MoT and we might just get Gabby back on the road again. Not sure where I'll put all the stuff currently stacked on top of her though

There should be spacers in between the inner and outer races as if there are not you can't tighten the nhub nut.
However, there have been instances where the spacer is very slightly too wide and after tightening the hub nut there is still play in the bearing. When I had this I just linished a bit off the spacer and kept doing it until I had just a very small amount of play at the wheel rim. Problem solved!
I think some suppliers are using cheap bearing sets these days and tolerances are, shall we say, a bit 'fluid'.
