Strange banging noise

Hello, just purchased a mini spirte.

When driving around the car makes a loud bang after each gear change, and even louder when setting off from stationary.

I believe it was the engine mounts, so replaced them and the noise still persists. also new engine brace fitted.

Has anyone any idea what it could be?

Any other symptoms e.g. loss of car performance? does it do it whilst turning left or right? clutch up, clutch down? Does it do it in every gear, including reverse? Does it do it whilst rolling the car in neutral?

A development on the banging, pulled away and one big bang and now no drive at the front wheels, CV joint or dif?

Can someone tell me how to tell if it's the CV's or Dif?

Firstly whatever you do don't run the engine until you've found out whats failed, because if the diff or other part of the gearbox has failed there may be shrapnel in the engine oil.

As to finding out, you'll have to strip each cv joint (X4) and check visually each one working your way towards the diff. Also check the splines on the drive flanges (that attach to the brake disc) unusual to fail but you never know.

If you don't find anything a miss then its something in the gearbox and the engine will have to come out. Sorry.
