Ok... first mini on the way...
Discussion
Before I go to the store this week and pickup an 1996 mini i would like to ask for some help from fellow enthusiastic...
I found on the web a shop called Mini Sports and looks like they have all bits and pieces for all minis... any word on these guys... My problem is I am in Slovakia and here I dont find anything on minis and I want to build a fast road car so I can take to the track days here.
How easy or difficult is to DIY some engine mods on minis?
Thanks,
L.

Well... This is my first car where I want to do all mechanical work alone... Of course depending on tools, I can't bore a cylinder at home. but my idea is to exchange headers for one already ported and also to mount a weber 45, 3 in one exaust and new disk brakes... In the future like said bore and new straight cut gears

Being a 1996 model, won't that mean its an SPI. So Injection with ECU etc.Which means there'll be some extra work to get the weber on. Also, you'll need a bulkhead box to fit the webber in, which is technically not allowed (or you'll technically need an BIVA test). Its a minefield, .
Or has it already been converted to a carb'd engine? If it hasn't, you may also find trouble with emissions tests come MOT time.
Always served me well with my 2 minis and I owned them 10 years apart. You may be able to source "better" parts else where, but it will cost. Ebay works very well btw.....

8000-8500rpm is possible using MED as your supplier of choice, it can get pretty expensive though. They have BEAUTIFUL custom crank shafts......
5-10k is easy to spend.....
I noticed, last night I calculated and only forged pistons, rods, and crank shaft alone were already 3k...5-10k is easy to spend.....
Is it worth to spend that money on a mini? Because I will not be racing, my goal is to have a fast road car for track days...
Got it... And already need Service... Some sales people are just not fair enough... The car started all good at the shop but next day we noticed that the battery is most likely not charging because it won't start today... Also when it was hot it won't start ... Do I have 2 problems, starter and alternator?
he said he was using it for his personal trips from and to the shop... it was even registered with a special license plate in his personal name... but i dont think that is possible for him to be sing the car or regular bases and one day after I bought it it wont charge the battery, not even light the headlights with the engine running...
Just ordered a rebuilt one from minisports and another truck load of goodies, new sport suspension set, new clutch, new ignition coil and spark plugs and electronic distributor, new ram air filter K&N, new oil filter plus oil cooler to keep it cool at the highway, new fuel filter, new belt for the alternator and fan, new sport fan to push more air to help keep things cool... ( I was really amazed how fast it got hot on the highway at 130km/h... Now during the winter I want to pull the engine and tranny apart, rebuilt it and take care of the interior because is looking bad... one question, can I use rally cams and rockers together or I need to choose one? which is a better upgrade to match a fully worked header?

A 1293cc (20thou over bore) with 40dcoe webber carb, 286 cam and some high lift rockers is a pretty strong starting point....
Replace the 286 with modern equivalent (I'm running SW10 from Swiftune, RE13 is good, or one of Adrian Dodds new cams), head with 10.5:1 compression and decent not oversized ports, ditch the weber and stick with an HIF44 on a decent manifold, hi-lift rockers are your choice and you'll be about right. The cost saving on the weber and manifold should cover the cost of the bits you need.Trouble with this kind of question is everyone has an opinion !! I don't see the point of webers at any state of tune on a mini which isn't going to be full race, but it depends if your local Rolling road operator is more familiar with them and get it tuned correctly.
