Picked up my new toy yesterday, thought I'd bung some pics up in the appropriate place....

Built 3/10/68, despatched 11/11/68 to Stewart & Ardern Limited in Acton (London's biggest Morris dealership back in the day), where it sat until it was first reg'd on 19/4/69.... Island Blue / Snowberry White roof, standard black interior but with replica 'factory recliners' fitted four years ago, restored completely back in '91 and only done 6k miles since, suspension converted from wet to dry during the resto, fitted with period SPQR tacho pod and Smiths tacho, adjustable front and rear suspension trumpets, Moto-Lita steering wheel, electronic ignition and RC40 s/steel exhaust.... can't believe my luck, I'm still pinching myself!

There are some blemishes in the paintwork that don't really show in the photos but the twenty year old restoration has stood up very well. It came with two boxes of spares, two sets of seats, two sets of wheels and tyres, a recent full service and a years MOT... one or two little jobs to do but it's on the button and drives like a Mini should ;o)

Now that is one sweet looking Cooper, good work!
You must be over the moon with it. What are you plans? Going to use it on track?

Absolutely lovely Cooper cloud9.

As above, any plans for it in the future? - it doesn't need anything changing appearance wise in my opinion smile.

Thanks chaps ;O)

No plans to do any track days with it, not really my thing, the best thing about these little beasties is driving them on the road!(I do love classic motorsport but have never fancied having a go - I'd probably end up breaking it!). I'm happy enough to have it looking the way I'd have wanted it if I'd been old enough to buy it new in '68 / '69, with period extras and the like.... as far as I've managed to find out, the original Dunlop D1s were launched in late '68 so they tick the right box looks wise. I've also got a period 'Benelite' spotlamp grille to fit which came as part of the deal with the car, as was fitted to some Radford / Wood & Pickett Minis of the late '60s and early '70s, it needs a good clean up first though. One or two other bits to add as well, other than that the paintwork will need doing again in the next year or two but with the Cooper 50th anniversary this year the main thing is for it to be driven as much as possible!

Will post some more pics tomorrow... the interior, engine bay etc ;-)

That is a really nice looking car, however the tyres protrude a bit to far from the arches, watch you don't get pulled by a nice traffic officer.

I've always used the ST 'Group 2' wheel arches when using Dunlop D1 wheels, although with the ST Minilites atb 4.5" no extension arches are needed.

I might put the Minilites back on at some point, I just wanted to see how the D1s looked on the car really.... don't particularly want to start drilling holes in the bodywork for Group 2 arches, although I do like the look of 'em on other cars (particularly Tartan Red & Black ones).

Stoat - will post more pics shortly, off out now for a little spin...

I've said it often and I'll say it again - D1s are the best Mini wheels, IMO. The 5x10s I had on mine didn't overhang, which was one of the main plus points. Bang on Cooper by the way!

Cheers both ;-)

It's the Cooper S hub / brake set up that pushes the D1s out a bit further, when they were on the other Cooper they didn't poke out as far.... it corners like a dream now mind ;-)

Keeping an eye on the weather forecast... Beaulieu on Sunday!

Yes, the D1s I had were on a Mk 2 1000 so would have fitted better. MCR put on a good show so you'll have a fine old time whatever the weather
