Hi,
My mini smells really bad of petrol, so much so I have a little high followed by a headache whenever I drive it for 20 mins or so. The fuel lines and tank have been checked and are fine(although the boots not really sealed. Speaker holes still open), my only thoughts are that it might be coming in from behind the centre clocks? As there is no cover to where the wireing comes in. Does this make sense or should I look more closely under the bonnet.

If Your carburetter is set right, the engine should not normaly smell pertol. There must be some kind of problem.
First check the tank breather hose (on the top of the tank). It should go righ down to the trunk floor, thereafter below the car.
Second check all fuel pipe connections. They should be tight and dry.
If all ok, check the carb itself. The overflow pipe should be dry. Also the fuel bowl on the side of the carb (if it is an elder model). On HIF carbs, check the bottom of the carb with hand to see if it is dry or not.
Normaly fuel fumes indicate a problem, and should not be take easy, as petrol is highly flameable. It can be dangerous. If not sure, seek advice in fixing it.

Probably coming in through the boot. I've had this before and you should seal off the boot from the car's interior, including the speaker holes and the gap up each side of the rear seat upright panel.
It can be very dangerous and potentially fatal, so you shouldn't really drive the car until it is sorted.
