Help and advice for new purchase

OK. I'm warming to the idea of buying the Mrs a classic Mini for her birthday. I only started to seriously consider this last night so the learning curve starts now ! I've not a clue on the pitfalls or what to look for.
Trouble is I want a nice rot free and mechanically sound car for ..... Well for about £3k max. Is this possible ?

Yes, £3k should get you something quite nice. Bur whatever you do take a real Mini-expert with you when you go to buy one or yu could end up with a 'lemon'. Even if you have to pay someone to go with you it will be well worth it. Try finding a volunteer from on here. Where do you live?

Yes it does. Unfortunatley I've had to pull out. I told the Mrs and she reluctantly pulled the plug.
Why ? Everytime there's an issue with our mini, Wifey says "It's old and unreliable - we should get rid"
She seems to forget that the First 5 years of her driving experience were mini based, and she forgets that she used to drive her 850 up and down the M6 with no breakdown cover, and it never let her down (apart from at MOT's when it failed on everything possible. She also forgets the Metro 1275 she owned for 5 years too, which was the most fun and reliable and rustiest car known to man.

Space mainly. We have 2 new cars. The mini would have to go in the gararge which would mean one of the cars on the road. Not a good idea on our street. Parking is at a premium.Everytime there's an issue with our mini, Wifey says "It's old and unreliable - we should get rid"

Space is the reason why my wife has put her foot down at a second mini.
Her car is garaged, we have a shared driveway going to waste as next door does not have a car, but complains that her side is only for access, plus we have gravel where the lawn used to be. With the mini on the lawn, and my daily hack in the road.
Since then I've been parking both Cavalier and mini on the gravel. It's tight, but it makes the point.
