throttle hunting at steady speed

Hi I'm new to this forum - looking to buy my first TVR (griffith) this summer.

I took a test drive in a 95 5.0 at the weekend. Good low mileage at 20K and seemed well cared for.

The only problem was trying to hold a steady 2500 - 3000 rpm in a low gear (2nd or 3rd). This started the engine hunting - the revs just repeatedly rising and lowering despite me holding the throttle steady.

I appreciate this is a tuned engine with a tendancy to run away at the slightest opportunity but is this behaviour normal for the rover lump ?

I'd appreciate any experience

No, this is not normal. There are any number of faults that can cause this, typically quite easy for an experienced TVR specialist to track down but may cost in the low hundreds of pounds.
