i was just wondering if a griff could be used as a daily?
because one day i hope to get one(have an s3 at the mo) but im worried about the cost of running( how easy is it to do most of the work yourself)
and apart from the cooling thing what they like for daily motorway travel?? any help would be great thanks

Bit of a broad question really. Ideally I wouldn't use one everyday but a good friend of mine does and has no problems. Not because of any specific reliability issues just the inpracticalities of using such a powerful and convertible car in all seasons.

As with all TVR's as you know each one is an individual. Depends on your budget etc etc.

I had a Griff 500 for 3 years and it never missed a beat but then again I only used it at weekends.

I use my 1993 Chim daily. No problems other than the kind of thing you would expect - bigger fuel and service bills than a Eurobox. Bigger smiles too.

I would alsorecommend you fit either a fan override switch and/or change the otter switch.

I use my 10 yr old Griff every day and it's more reliable than when it was used weekends so has actually cost me less (probably a coincidence). The fuel bills are higher, especially with the top down cos it sounds so good under power I drive it more like a bike i.e. accelerate hard at every opportunity. I never check the fuel consumption in case it scares me. I can't think it should cost more to run than an S3 other than slightly higher servicing costs (8 cyls instead of 6).

Definitely - and if you want to know about costs see some of the profiles (mine included).

Just picked up the work e-mail telling me what I can claim now that Tony Blur's Miracle Money Saving Scheme has hit mileage allowance and I find I'm paying over twice per mile what I can now claim...........

(Only cover a couple of thousand pa so 90% is my own mileage anyway)

........but s*d that - it's worth every penny to make the day brighter. Why I even enjoy driving to work these days (bit cold when I got in through the grey murk this morning and only saw one other driver (Lotus) braving it with the roof off) ......

Beano,

Just checked your proile and your cars history/cost if very encouraging. I am in the same boat as Vodkakid and will be changing mine in about 10-12 months for a Griff. Still trying to decide on the 4.3 v's 500. But gut feel is better to go for newer car as it is going to be everyday transport.

Cheers

Mark
