Can anyone help with a problem which has arisen with the alarm system [factory fitted] on my 1997 Griffith 500? The alarm unit fitted on the nearside of the engine compartment has 'BREVETTATO' stamped on the back. The car has been parked outside for a couple of days but was in my garage when the alarm went off, apparently for no reason. It emitted a very high pitched shriek. I tried operating the remote locking a few times but this had no effect. I then disconnected the unit but this didnt stop it either. I removed the unit from the car and eventually it stopped making a noise some time later. The unit is connected via a black plug to wiring outside the engine compartment. The wiring outside the engine compartment also has a seperate purple wire which is not connected to anything,or so it appears. The car was purchased from a main dealer about 12 weeks ago. I note that the warranty supplied with the car [TVR SPIRIT] does not seem to cover alarms, even factory fitted ones. However,I think that the Sale of Goods Act will assist if necessary. If anyone has any constructive suggestions I should be grateful to hear from them.

I would hazard a guess at the alarm going off due to the battery voltage dropping - the alarm thinks someone is trying to get around the alarm by dosconnecting it, hence when you took out the siren it was still sounding (battery backup) until the battery died. If this is the case you also want to find out why the battery voltage was dropping. As for the warranty, go back to the dealer and ask them politely if it is covered (they react better to questions than to shouting and screaming!) and see what they say, maybe there is something they can do. Failing that, call the warranty company directly and see what they say. If you still get no joy, then perhaps try an alarm specialist to see if they can repair what you have, you never know, they may be able to repair your system a lot cheaper than replacing it Good luck, hope you get it sorted soon so you can get back to enjoying your car! ================ Graham and Rosie
