Noisy fuel tank
Discussion
It's the scaled up version of the old sqaure metal buscuit tin lid effect.
I get it in my Chim, usually just after I start it when it's hot. Start engine... whump... drive a bit... whump... and that's it.
Scared the life out of me the first time. And no, the dealer didn't fix it when asked, but nor did they say "they all do that."
I had it happen on my Griff exactly like Marshy. I too was very scared when it happened for the first time after two days of ownership. Thoughts like "there goes my diff/transmission/driveshaft" ran through my head. A phone call with the dealer got me calmed down and since then I don't really pay much attention to it anymore.

Well just to 'mine does that' for my 96 Chim 4.0, often after pulling away of reversing - glad to hear it's not just another 'friendly quirk...'.
Had enough 'friendly quirks' with the last service being £1500 Still you have no idea how good it feels to get in the car after 3 months in the USA :-))
