When cornering left or right My 73 Griff 4 ltr I sometimes get a single clonk noise from the fuel tank, anyone experience the same? or know the cause and cure?

It's the scaled up version of the old sqaure metal buscuit tin lid effect. I get it in my Chim, usually just after I start it when it's hot. Start engine... whump... drive a bit... whump... and that's it. Scared the life out of me the first time. And no, the dealer didn't fix it when asked, but nor did they say "they all do that."

Mines the same Marshy. Two bangs about 2 or 3 mins apart but usually only when the car is started hot.

My Chimaera does this after the tank is less than half full. I think it's the sender unit float banging on the inside of the tank. It's been doing this for a year or more now with no apparent ill effects...

My Chimaera seems to do this too. (Sender unit knocking the inner wall of the tank). Hasn't caused a problem so far....its all part of its 'character'.....love it, love it.

I had it happen on my Griff exactly like Marshy. I too was very scared when it happened for the first time after two days of ownership. Thoughts like "there goes my diff/transmission/driveshaft" ran through my head. A phone call with the dealer got me calmed down and since then I don't really pay much attention to it anymore. Well just to 'mine does that' for my 96 Chim 4.0, often after pulling away of reversing - glad to hear it's not just another 'friendly quirk...'. Had enough 'friendly quirks' with the last service being £1500 Still you have no idea how good it feels to get in the car after 3 months in the USA :-))
