Apparently (it's difficult to see it when driving), when I brake and indicate right, the rear indicator and brake lights sort of come on together. I suspect an earthing problem, but according to the Griff Bible (SH) the earthing point is under the gear lever. Which means I've got to get the centre console out. Which means disconnecting the handbrake. Which means getting under the car. Which means I go back inside and watch telly.

Is there an easier way?

You get this on Fords all the time. Check the crappy Ford rear light cluster, it is a nasty copper (?) thing a bit like a grown-up version of a printed circuit board, with wiring connectors at the edges and the bulbs pushed against it in the middle. Bend it or get a bit of corrosion in there and it stops working and you get lights back-feeding through each other, hence the novelty rear lights. Bend it back or clean up the corrosion and it should go back to normal again, for a while.

Faux pas Peter! Griffs have a crappy Vauxhall rear light cluster! But yes, it's a motley collection of bulbs sticking out of a circut boards, so the theory should apply equally well. I will give it a go - thanks.

NB Need any Marshals in th Essex/Suffolk area?

Yes pay someone else to do it. If you want to get to the earthing points under the console, there is no other way.

I know its not the correct route, but if all you have is the sypmtoms you describe, strap a wire from the earth of the light cluster to a chassis point. Maybe the fuel pump, quite close. I use this for my big mother amp!
